Celebrities.

Okay, so I know what you're thinking. Here we go, another teenage girl obsessed with the antics of the out of control celebrities in our society today. This is hardly the case.

As a society we don't see how much our celebrities influence us. Not only by the new trends that are circulating around Hollywood, but the way that we seem to be obsessed with our celebrities. We are a society full of celebrity worshippers. Voyeurs of the rich and famous. But why are they so interesting? Is it the way the look? The way they dress? The way the are "cool" and "down to earth" after the knowledge that literally millions of people worldwide know who they are? Or maybe its just human nature to either be fascinated or envious of those who have more. More power. More talent. More money. Just Plain more.

Although the real answer could be that we turn to our celebrities in our days of turmoil, to relieve our stressful lives. There are so many global problems threatening us today. Global Warming and war. Let's face it, our world is depressing.

Climate change, the world's biggest problem that threatens us all. We have all heard it before. We use so much C02 Gas emissions, our world can't keep up. Thus creating a planet which is hotter. When we have a hotter climate, our droughts persist longer. As Australia is already currently in one of the worst droughts. These are only the short term effects. If climate change continues to happen our pacific neighbours (small islands) could be swallowed by the sea. This is a problem that suspends on our shoulders.

War, another problem that we face today. Our human intelligence has advanced over the course of thousands of generations but if we continue to fight with other countries, is that the measure of our intelligence? Wars in the past have been motivated by power, politics and religion and this is still evident to this day. The current war in Iraq continues to cause bloodshed and terror, as the death toll escalates. World Peace is a failing dream if we continue to keep this up.

So, I must say. THANK GOD FOR PARIS HILTON, LINDSAY LOHAN AND BRITTANY SPEARS. I know, you think I'm crazy right? They without a doubt, make our world A LOT more exciting and they provide us with the necessary distractions to relieve our stress. The celebrities of our society today, along with their catastrophes, cat fights and chaos have the tendency to give us the temporary relief from all the devastating problems in our world. Paris Hilton going to Gaol, Brittany Spears shaving her head and Lindsay Lohan making frequent visits to Rehab as if it were her second home. These people are the rich and the famous, who are out of control.

Yet, whether we like it or not there is a strange thrill the public gets when we see these people acting poorly. The public comes out denouncing their actions and behaviour yet continues to buy all the tabloids that publicize their bad demeanour. There is always a scandal or some drunken behaviour that we can disapprove of and turn our heads in shame. As a society we want to see these people self destruct. We can't help but to laugh when we see them not only ruin their own lives, but their media careers.
As individuals it is gratifying for us to know that despite all our own problems we have to deal with, These celebrities we should be "envious" of have lives with bigger problems than ours and they don't seem to solve them, only making them bigger because of the media pressure. It is celebrities with adversity like this that tend to give us the release we need from all the circulating complications in the world.

So maybe, our celebrities despite being famous for for being famous actually do have a purpose in this world rather than making movies or albums. They give us free entertainment. It is like a soap opera on the news. They give us a chance to sit back and laugh rather than worry about all these disasters in the world. Celebrities. Can't live with them, Can't live without them.
